Doctor Who Flux Series 13 Finale - 20 Open Questions - Updated with Answers (where we got them!)5/12/2021 Tonight on BBC1 is the finale of Series 13.
The 6 episode run has been quite complex, narratively, and so for a bit of fun, we've complied a list of open questions we'd like answered in tonight's final chapter. Of course, there is no guarantee all these questions will be answered today as there are still 3 specials to go in 2022 before the end of Chris Chiball and Jodie Whittaker's current era. Here goes with the (not definitive) list of questions: 1. If the Fugitive Doctor is pre-Hartnell, why does her TARDIS look like a police box? Not answered yet. 2. What is happening to the TARDIS? Why does it seem to be breaking down? I assume the Flux. ALTHOUGH, looking at the marketing image for Eve of the Daleks, the TARDIS doesn't look too healthy in the next episode. So maybe more of an explanation is to come. 3. How did Swarm escape the prison he’s been in since the ‘dawn of the universe’ in ep 1? Not explained. 4. Why did Swarm change appearance when released in ep.1 (renewed) ? Not explained. 5. Why did Swarm make a psychic connection to the 13th Doctor to show her his escape? Not explained. 6. Why is Dan resistant to Karvanista’s mind control in ep.1? Maybe just because. Probably not significant. 7. Why is Azure a human woman living in the arctic circle, with her mind apparently wiped in ep 1? Could this have come about in a similar way to the Doctor rewriting their biology in Human Nature and Fugitive of the Judoon, and the Master in Utopia? Not explained. I get a sense, what with the change of appearance in Ep 1, that they are somehow related to the Time Lords. Maybe we will find out in the Specials? 8. What is the strange mini flying object that appears to human Azure and her human partner in the arctic in ep 1 that ‘they promised would never happen’ and ‘we didn’t receive the warning’? Not explained. 9. Is it significant that Vinder’s space outpost is called Operation ‘Rose’? Apparently not. 10. How and why was Karvanista working with the Fugitive Doctor/Division? And whet doesn’t he work for the Division now? And what does he know about her forgotten past? He has something in his brain to stop him talking. 11. Why does Dan say he had ‘a mate who had one of these’ when he enters the TARDIS? Was he serious, or just making a joke? Not explained. Maybe just a joke. 12. What does the vision of the old house (that the Doctor sees in ep 2) represent? It represents her memories. Why, I'm not sure. 13. Why are there portals going from the Joseph Williamson’s mine in 1820 to various locations in time & space? Not sure. I will have to re-watch. 14. Who are the Fugitive Doctor’s companions alongside Karvanista in ep.3? Not answered. Maybe it won't be, as not relevant. 15. Who did Dan nearly marry 15 years ago? (2006) Not answered. Maybe it won't be, as not relevant. 16. How did the Grand Serpent get from some future alien world to 1958 Earth? Not answered. 17. Why did the Grand Serpent help influence the creation of UNIT? What is he trying to achieve? I'm guessing just the Sontaran invasion. So he set UNIT up, just so he could dismantle it. Strange. 18. How come ep.5 tells us that UNIT was set up just after the WOTAN events when previously we’d been told it was set up after the Yeti invasion of the underground? Ah, my mistake this one. Its just fan tradition that UNIT was created after the Yeti invasion, popularised by the TARGET novels I suspect. In 'Invasion', the Brigadier says he began leading UNIT after the Yeti invasion (but not that it didn't exist before, led by somebody else). And in 'Spearhead from Space' the Brigadier explains to Liz Shaw that 'since UNIT was formed there have been 2 attempts to invade Earth' - namely the Intelligence and Cybermen. So the way I see it now is that after General Farquhar died, Lethbridge-Stewart got eventually promoted (after his work on the Yeti invasion) and was asked to lead UNIT in the UK. 19. Is the fact that Vinder and Bel are having a baby significant to the plot ? No. 20. What is Swarm and Azure's plan? A bit vague. Something to do with different values and time. It has been identified, by fans online, that a new company has been set up by the directors of Badwolf called 'Whoniverse 1 Ltd.'.
